OUR DAYS OUT THERE

Pages from our camping journal

Real trips, told a little at a time.

THIS IS CHASING LIGHT ADVENTURE

A few wrong turns.
A lot of good stories.

Some of our favorite days start with a loose plan and end with muddy tires, tired dogs, and a story we didn’t see coming.

Chasing Light Adventure is our place to share those days—the beautiful views, the things we learn, and the mistakes along the way. We’re here to relax, have fun, learn, share, and enjoy the journey as it unfolds. You don’t need an RV or fancy equipment to come along. A nearby trail and a little curiosity are a fine place to start.

FEATURED ADVENTURE

The best days
aren’t always
in the forecast.

Saturday brought the rain. Sunday was supposed to bring more. Instead, the sky gave us a beautiful day to get out and explore.

A drive to scout dispersed camping turned into an off-road adventure. The Jeep came back muddy, Maggie had her time in the water, and Charlie got in on the fun. Fall colors and quiet water did the rest.

“God’s country.”— Tom, after our Big Bog trip
A story from the boardwalk

One of the memories we brought home was a conversation with a park employee whose father helped build the Big Bog boardwalk. They told us about the community effort to bring visitors to the area after the Red Lake walleye collapse.

Hearing that story firsthand made the walk more meaningful. We left with an appreciation for the place—and for the people who care so much about it.

01 / THE PEOPLE

Tom & Maureen

We’re the humans behind Chasing Light Adventure. We share the driving, the discoveries, and the days when the plan needs a little adjusting.

Photography is part of how Tom sees the world. Traveling together is how those photographs become stories. There’s always another road, another patch of beautiful light, and another reason to stay outside a little longer.

For Maureen — a little surprise ♥

Here’s to the back roads we haven’t found yet, the campfires still to come, and all the little moments in between.

The best part of this adventure is sharing it with you.

With love, Tom

02 / THE PAWS

Charlie

Chief Enthusiasm Officer

Bernese Mountain Dog. Big heart. Big ideas. Occasionally questionable coordination. Charlie approaches every adventure absolutely certain that everything is going according to plan.

Unofficial motto: “I meant to do that.”

Maggie, our yellow Labrador, exploring the water’s edge

02 / THE PAWS

Maggie

Director of “I Told You So”

Yellow Labrador. Quiet observer. Independent spirit. Usually three steps ahead of Charlie—and already aware of the flaw in his otherwise excellent plan.

Unofficial motto: “I’ll be over here.”

FROM THE CHASING LIGHT STORY WORLD

The Legend of
The Dirt Balls

Muddy paws. Wild places. Questionable decisions.

Everyday adventures. Outrageously epic retellings. Tom becomes the expedition leader. Charlie becomes the warrior who has not read the plan. Maggie becomes the reason anybody gets home.

Read a tiny legend: The Quest for One More Throw

A PLAYFUL FICTION INSPIRED BY OUR LAKESIDE DAYS

At the edge of the great water, Sir Charlie stood ready. His mission was clear. His strategy was less so.

Somewhere beyond the shore lay the Object of Great Importance. It had been thrown. Therefore, it must be retrieved.

Maggie surveyed the kingdom. She had seen this quest before. Six times, in fact.

“One more,” declared the human.

Maggie looked toward the setting sun. Empires had fallen on more reliable promises.

Charlie charged. The lake lost its composure. And the legends would say that, for one shining moment, everyone was exactly where they belonged.

To be continued… probably after a towel.

THERE’S ROOM AROUND THIS CAMPFIRE

Where should we
go next?

A little campground. A waterfall. That road you almost don’t want to tell anyone about. The next Chasing Light story could start with your idea.

Copies your idea to paste into a message or a comment on one of our social posts. This does not send it to us.
